With each beach walk or stunning pastoral view, or each time I found myself chatting with someone for a half hour at the super, or stopping the car right on the road to talk with a friend or offer them a ride, I felt a distinct sense of life being in glorious slow motion.
Living was less serious, less competitive, less traumatic and stressful. Instead of day-to-day survival interspersed with dreams of something better, living became an exciting daily project. We were jazzed to get out of bed every morning. We were learning from our new friends, or perhaps remembering, how to enjoy life.
